Liam had the privilege of interviewing M.A.N.D.Y and this is how it went down. You guys are going to enjoy it
SBH: Thanks for talking with us guys, so first up, how has the year been so far? what have you been up to?
M.A.N.D.Y: Busy busy busy – as always. For Philipp with travelling and djing and studiowork and labelwork – and for me the same plus that i got a baby girl – two months old now. She keeps me working more than everything else! I love it!
SBH: You two share a close connection with Booka Shade as cofounders of Get Physical Records, tell us how it all came about?
M.A.N.D.Y: I studied economics together with Walter from Booka Shade. After three lessons he decided not to finnish studies but producing his synthie pop band “Indian Summer”, together with Arno all day and night. A very romantic Wanna Depeche Mode influenced Duo. Philipp and me we still studied but were more raving I think and then we came straight from a 3 day party to Walters studio in the basement of his grandmothers´house. She did some lunch then dinner – which we all refused several times – while we were hammering brand new tekkno tapes to the guys – music they didn´t know – but they loved it immediatly and so we were trying to produce the biggest tekkno sound ever – all together. It was some proper rave trance tracks in the early nineties but amazing avantgarde elektronika as well under different names – even warp recordings they were asking – that was very fun times!
SBH: Still on M.A.N.D.Y. and Booka Shade, you guys have put out a number of collaborations together which included hits like ‘Body Language’ and ‘Donut’. How important do you two think it is to collaborate with other artists?
M.A.N.D.Y: Philipp and me we love to collaborate because we love that social energy.
SBH: Tell us, what is the secret behind M.A.N.D.Y.? does it stand for anything in particular?
M.A.N.D.Y: Oh lala, It´s the most secret thing ever! Come to the laundry and I´ll tell you.
